Stunning sunsets are now streaming into this magnificent semi-outdoor Alfresco space. This fabulous modern rustic look has been achieved by Custom Outdoor Living in Melbourne, and one would have to agree it’s as inviting as warm toast with melted honey on the top. It just ticks all the boxes.
“The large sliding door and side windows on the existing home were the catalyst for the design,” says Managing Director, Matt Goodie, who in fact designed this incredible Alfresco for the owners. “Their brief was to ensure the design matched the original house and established garden, as if it had always been there. Of prime importance, also, was their wish to maximise views of the backyard to create light and space and this was amply achieved using a skillion roof, framed with gorgeous natural timber supports, and given added warmth by using Merbau to craft seating benches, two hidden firewood boxes, and decking.
A touch of outback character was also added by installing the wood fire heater surrounded by beautiful Crazy Pave stone. The irregular stone pieces were mortared together, and the look was repeated behind the outdoor kitchen as well.”
Stepping from the Living Room directly out into the new Alfresco is a breeze, and the ideal setting for a party or three. The feeling that the Living Room and Alfresco are one now makes the entire home feel infinitely bigger – whether you’re inside or out. The modern outdoor kitchen includes a BBQ, rangehood, ample cupboards, a sink and wine fridge, and, best of all, the next door neighbours are now completely hidden from view. Energy efficiency has also been maximised using low voltage Downlights, a central ceiling fan, and two high windows and a half-glass door for increased light.
Custom Outdoor Living, in Melbourne, worked closely with the Land Developers of this particular housing estate to ensure the overall design was in-keeping with the area guidelines, and this presented a few challenges that were quickly overcome. “Because of our depth of experience in design and construction as a holistic service, it was easier to make any amendments without having to seek permissions to change the design through an external Architect. We pride ourselves on being able to take care of everything by liaising directly and closely with our clients.”
Whatever the time of day or night, this family can now pop outside, whip up a barbie, grab a coffee or a wine, slink onto the outdoor lounge suite and watch the mounted television, listen to some music, and watch the sunset – all at once if they wish, and in no particular order. And once the air turns chilly, the fire and the wood stash are right there to add that extra special ambience.
